Professional regulations
The legal professional title “Lawyer” was awarded in Germany. The legal profession is essentially subject to the following professional regulations:
- Professional Code (BORA)
- Specialist Lawyers’ Code (FAO)
- Federal Lawyers’ Code (BRAO)
- Lawyers’ Remuneration Act (RVG)
- Professional rules for lawyers in the European Community

Professional Liability Insurance
HDI Versicherung AG, Hanover
The territorial scope of professional liability insurance includes (i) Germany, (ii) other European countries; the insurance covers liability claims from activities (a) in connection with advice and engagement with European law; (b) of the lawyer before European courts. (iii) Worldwide in the amount of the legally prescribed minimum sum insured for liability claims from the claims of the policyholder before non-European courts. The insurance cover does not relate to liability claims from activities via law firms or offices established or maintained abroad.
